Garageband is an interactive tool available on Apple computers that allows the user to create music using various pre-recorded instruments, and sounds. A user can create a song of any length, and edited in any manner. One can alter the tempo, sound, and rhythm of any of the musical options. It also has recorded beats that could easily be used on their own. Additionally the software has a recording option that the user can record their voice onto the song track.
Here is a sample song that Andrea and I created call A&A’s Jam.
Within the Communication Production Technology 10 course I would employ the use of Garageband to create music and background sounds for the students’ video projects. In Module 5B – Objective 5.34 the students are to understand and analyze the role of the video editor, this includes the sound. Which can set the tone and the pace of the video.
To avoid copyright infringement I would instruct the students to use Garageband to create any music they require to be in their move project. This would give them the opportunity to work with technology in addition to the movie recording and editing tools and software. The students would benefit by avoiding breaking copyright laws, and would enjoy using the fun and user friendly software.
