iMovie is a piece of technology software available in Mac computers that allows the user to create movies using imported recorded scenes or digital images. Once loaded the piece can be edited as needed. To lengthen or shorten scenes, add transitions between the shots, and add music or recorded voices.

Here is a sample movie Andrea, Danielle, Deborah I created titled Life as an Ed Student

In the Life Transitions 30 core  Module 12 – Conflict in Relationships I would use iMovie to have students create short films as example pieces.  In groups of 3-4 the students would be required to complete a piece of work displaying the following:

  • identifying behaviours that escalate and those that defuse conflicts
  • show examples of practising skills that are effective in constructively resolving conflict
  • The students would be encouraged to complete this in a variety of ways; a story with a moral at the end, a news broadcast, a talk show, or an educational documentary. The completed pieces would be viewed as a class with a discussion identifying the elements afterwards.

As iMovie is a fun and easy to use program the students would enjoy this assignment, along with the entire movie making progress. It would enhance this objective as the students would be able to display their conflict resolution skills in a variety of ways for all of their peers to see.  It would also allow students to use technology in a class where it would not normally be included.
