A Smartboard is an interactive whiteboard. It is a large touch controlled screen that offers all of the functions a desk top computer can and more. It is the size of a very large screen television. It can be mounted on a wall, or used on a cart. As the touch screen allows the user to become more actively engaged in the activity of choice. It also has the feature of having whatever is being displayed to be saved or printed off, as opposed to a chalk board where the information would be lost once erased.
I would employ the use of a Smartboard in an Entrepreneurship 30 class. Specifically in Objective 13.6 – Student Presentation of Business Plan.
The student groups would create presentations to reveal to the class their proposed business plans. The students would use the Smartboard to enhance their presentation. As they would display videos, interactive charts and graphs reflecting profit projection, and diplays of their product or service.
The students would benefit from the use of the Smartboard in their presentation as they would be actively engaged in its various functions. Additionally it would allow students to use a piece of technology the may have yet to have used, but one that will probably be widely used in the future.
